Great Southern Rail welcomes the recent announcement by Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) Minister The Hon. Jenny Macklin MP to deliver concession funding for rail travel for State or Territory Seniors Card holders. This arrangement means new concession fare privileges are now available to those State or Territory Seniors Card holders who are ineligible to receive Pension or Commonwealth Seniors Health card entitlements.
The new Government funding arrangements for State or Territory State Seniors Card holders allows Great Southern Rail to extend the concession savings for Seniors to as much as 25%* off the standard adult everyday fare on bookings made from 1 June 2009 in both Gold Service and Red Service on Great Southern Rail’s train journeys.
Please be aware that the new 25%* saving cannot be applied by using your existing Seniors Card. The new concession arrangements with Great Southern Rail require Seniors Card holders to pre-register to obtain a unique Great Southern Rail Seniors Concession Travel Card.
State or Territory Seniors Card holders (who are ineligible to receive Pension or Commonwealth Seniors Health card entitlements) are invited to register online to obtain a Great Southern Rail Seniors Concession Travel Card.

The 25% saving is applicable only upon presentation of a valid Great Southern Rail Seniors Concession Travel Card. The 25% saving is applied to GSR’s standard published everyday adult everyday fares and is limited to train travel only. The new Seniors concession can not be claimed in conjunction with any other GSR discount, Pension Concession or promotional offers except the $99 - $299 Motorail offer. The new Seniors concession does not apply to bookings for Platinum Service, GSR Private Carriages, nor any of GSR’s special services. The 25% saving does not apply to the fuel price surcharge component of the fare and is not valid on bookings made prior to 1 June 2009.
