What to pack for travel in Platinum Service?

Smart casual attire is the dress code

VISA, American Express Card, Diners Card and Mastercard only are accepted on the trains. No EFTPOS facilities available. Travellers Cheques are not accepted.

What to pack for travel in Red Service?

Neat casual attire is required

A jumper is recommended for the evenings as the air-conditioning can be cool.

Bring your own rug and pillow. Towels and soap are provided on the Indian Pacific and The Ghan (shower facilities not available on The Overland).

General Advice

It is recommended that guests pack a hat, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes for off-train touring. Sensible shoes are also recommended for onboard the trains for walking between carriages.

It is recommended to guests who bring electronic devices (eg. Laptop computer) to also pack a surge arrestor.

Luggage
Due to space constraints, guests are recommended to only take on board hand luggage containing the requirements for their journey. A total of 40kg of checked-in luggage per guest is allowed (2 items not exceeding 20kg each and 180 linear centimetres). Note: checked-in luggage cannot be accessed during the journey.

Cabin luggage is limited to the following amounts:

Platinum Service: Two travel bag not exceeding 20Kgs in weight and no larger than 70 x 60 x 50cm (length x height x width) plus one piece of hand luggage

Gold Service twin: One travel bag not exceeding 20Kgs in weight and no larger than 70 x 60 x 50cm (length x height x width) plus one piece of hand luggage

Gold Service single: One travel bag not exceeding 20Kgs in weight and no larger than 50 x 30 x 30cm (length x height x width) plus one piece of hand luggage

Red Sleeper: One travel bag not exceeding 20Kgs in weight and no larger than 50 x 30 x 30cm (length x height x width) plus one piece of hand luggage

Red Daynighter seats : One travel bag not exceeding 20Kgs in weight and no larger than 50 x 30 x 30cm (length x height x width)

Occupational Health and Safety Legislation provides guidelines outlining the safe weight that can be lifted by our staff. We appreciate your co-operation.



Certain items are prohibited from being carried in your luggage at all. Valuables including your passport, medicine, fragile or perishable items must be carried on board as cabin baggage. An additional fee may apply to excess luggage. Check the Conditions for full luggage details.
